Brian Brown, president of the National
Organization for Marriage (NOM), joined three conservatives Friday on
a marriage panel at Values Voter Summit, the three-day conference
organized by the Christian conservative Family Research Council
(FRC).
Ryan Anderson and Jennifer Marshall of
the Heritage Foundation and FRC President Tony Perkins joined Brown
on the panel.
The four roundly criticized increasing
support for gay marriage, equaling it with a loss of free speech for
opponents.
Right
Wing Watch, a project of People for the American Way, pointed out
that while the conference was taking place in the District of
Columbia, which legalized gay nuptials in 2009, the panelist
repeatedly suggested that people who live in jurisdictions where such
unions are legal are not allowed to express their opposition to
marriage equality.
Brown told attendees that allowing gay
and lesbian couples to marry undermines reality and the human
condition.
Marriage equality is “an attempt to
deconstruct the very nature of reality, the very nature of what it
means to be a human being,” Brown said. (The video is embedded on
