Concussion, the story of a bored lesbian wife who turns to prostitution, opened in select theaters and became available as a digital download on Friday.

Abby (played by Robin Weigert) is a 42-year-old mother of two who turns to lesbian prostitution after she is hit on the head with a ball. Her new occupation is a dangerous counterpoint to her stale, sexless marriage to another woman (Julie Fain Lawrence).

Abby beds women for money in a Manhattan loft. The escape, however, begins to threaten Abby's mental health and marriage. (The film's trailer is embedded on this page. Visit our video library for more videos.)

The film premiered at Sundance in January.

Write-director Stacie Passon told the Los Angeles Times that the movie was not about prostitution but about life and living with the choices we make.

“It's impossible to know when you're 25 years old what marriage looks like when you're 40,” Passon said. “Marriage is hard. And things happen.”

She described her protagonist as “a starving person” and “someone who didn't know she was starving for a long time.”

Lesbian blog Autostraddle.com said Concussion's sex scenes were reason enough to watch the film, “but you'll end up asking yourself why you didn't want more than that.”

You can rent or buy the film from WolfeOnDemand.com or iTunes.
