Christian conservative Linda Harvey has endorsed a pair of Russian
anti-gay laws, saying that the U.S. should follow Russia's lead.
The laws, signed over the summer by President Vladimir Putin,
prohibit gay and lesbian couples from adopting Russian-born children
and the public promotion of gay rights where minors might be present,
effectively banning Gay Pride marches and similar demonstrations.
The laws have provoked worldwide outrage and calls for a boycott of
the Winter Olympics to be held next year in Sochi.
Harvey, the founder of the Columbus, Ohio-based Mission America
and a frequent contributor to the conservative website WND.com, told
her radio listeners that she could not comprehend why anyone would
oppose the laws.
“A ban on homosexuals adopting children was also part of this
law as well as a ban on Gay Pride parades, something we should
consider in cities here, and a ban on any public promotion of
homosexuality,” Harvey said.
She
continued: “It's amazing to me, with all of Russia's flaws,
they understand how important this is and we don't. Homosexual
groups specialize in playing the victim card even though in reality
the Russian law is about preventing children from being victims so
it's not victimizing anyone.”
