Two women exchanged vows Saturday at
the San Diego Pride Festival, making them the first couple to legally
marry at the annual festival.
According to U-T
San Diego, Liz and Tricia Woodley, together 7 years, married
under the eaves of an open-air gazebo as their 4-year-old daughter
Carol looked on.
“We wanted our family to be
legitimate under the law, especially the protections under the law,”
Liz said. “All the work you see about DOMA and Prop 8 – this is
it. This is gay pride. We're family.”
A Supreme Court ruling released last
month paved the way for the couple to wed.
An estimated 200,000 revelers cheered
during the parade as actor George Takei (Star Trek), his
husband Brad Altman and singer La Toya Jackson led the procession.
