Actor Cory Monteith, who is best known
for playing Finn Hudson on the Fox musical-comedy Glee, is
dead at the age of 31.
Monteith was found dead in his hotel
room in Vancouver by hotel staff who checked on the star after he
failed to check out on time, according to ABC NEWS.
“The deceased has been identified as
31-year-old actor Cory Monteith,” a Vancouver police spokesman
said, “who achieved great fame on the popular TV series Glee.”
Vancouver police said that the cause of
death was not immediately apparent but ruled out foul play.
Monteith had spoken openly about his
lifelong battle with substance abuse, which he said started at the
age of 13. He had voluntarily checked himself into a treatment
center in April.
He is survived by his parents and older
brother.
Monteith had been a strong advocate for
gay rights. His favorite charities included The Trevor Project and
Straight But Not Narrow.
