James Dobson, the founder of Focus on
the Family, believes that last week's Supreme Court decisions related
to gay marriage will lead to children being confused about their
gender.
Dobson was joined Monday on his radio
show by Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council (FRC)
and Bill Becker, an attorney affiliated with groups such as the
Alliance Defense Fund.
According to Dobson, the two rulings,
which have led to the federal government recognizing the legal
marriages of gay and lesbian couples and the return of same-sex
marriages in California, threaten the “entire superstructure” of
society.
“If you undermine it, if you weaken
it, if you do anything to cause it to crack, like has occurred now
with the rulings last week, you necessarily threaten the entire
superstructure. I believe it can come down,” Dobson
said. “Because you can't have stability without a functioning
marital relationship that leads to strong children who know who they
are as a boy or a girl, or a man or a woman.”
“This has been devastating. Even if
eventually legally we somehow walk it back a bit, I don't see our
ever completely recovering from what has happened here.”
Becker added: “I believe we've seen
the collapse of Western civilization in one day.”
