Tennis legend Martina Navratilova has
joined the NOH8 Campaign to help promote the group's first-ever photo
shoot in the Czech Republic.
NOH8 Campaign is a silent photo protest
which raises awareness and funds for gay rights causes, including
ending California's 2008 voter-approved gay marriage ban, Proposition
8.
The NOH8 Campaign's
Adam Bouska and his partner Jeff Parshley photograph celebrities,
politicians, professional athletes and everyday folks with their
mouths duct taped and the campaign's familiar “NOH8” slogan often
written on one cheek.
In a
Facebook post, the campaign released a photo of Navratilova holding a
NOH8 tennis ball and announced a photo shoot in Navratilova's
hometown of Prague. The Sunday, August 18 event will take place at
the Mamaison Hotel Riverside, according to a
Facebook page promoting the photo shoot.
Navratilova, who
dominated the women's tennis circuit for more than a decade, racking
up 18 Grand Slam wins and a record 9 women's single titles at
Wimbledon, came out gay in 1981. She is among a handful of openly
gay sports figures.
