When the topic of actress Jane Lynch's
impending divorce from her wife came up on CBS' The Talk, all
eyes turned to openly gay Sara Gilbert.
Lynch, who is best know for playing
Coach Sue Sylvester on the Fox musical-comedy Glee, announced
Monday that she is splitting from her wife of three years, Dr. Lara
Embry.
The women married in a private ceremony
in Sunderland, Massachusetts in 2010, a year after they had met at a
fundraiser held in Embry's honor in San Francisco. Among those in
the wedding party was Embry's daughter, Haden. In a commencement
speech given last year, Lynch described Haden as a kid designed for
her. “She's witty, wise beyond her years, she has a huge heart,
and such patience with the frailties of human nature,” she said.
“Do you think gay couples feel more
pressure to stay together?” asked Julie Chen, who then, turning to
Gilbert, added, “Gay Sara?”
“Speaking on behalf of all gays,”
Gilbert joked. “Even though there shouldn't be more pressure on
gay couples, I think there could be, because there's this fight for
marriage equality right now. … There's this feeling like, 'Oh,
we're representing this bigger cause.'” (The video is embedded on
