Scott Thorson, Liberace's former lover, won't answer whether he ever loved Liberace.

Liberace is the subject of the film Behind the Candelabra, which premiered last month in the United States on pay cable network HBO. The film is based on a book written by Thorson.

In an interview on cabler HLN, Thorson was asked whether he truly loved the flamboyant pianist.

“In the movie, you came across as somewhat of the bad guy: Abusing drugs, stealing to fuel your habit,” Showbiz Tonight's A.J. Hammer said. “Did you love Liberace or was it really at that time all about the money and the fame and what it could all afford you?”

“Well, okay, you gotta realize one thing, okay,” Thorson answered. “Where my drug addiction started was with Liberace. I was just 16 years old. Liberace was 48 years my senior. Now, Liberace did drugs right along with me. Now, he's the one that went to the plastic surgery, he's the one that ordered the doctor to put me on the drugs, and this is how I started my drug addiction. Lee and I, we had a great relationship. We had some some bad times but we had more happy times.” (The video is embedded on this page. Visit our video library for more videos.)
