Nike has released a sneaker that
celebrates Gay Pride.
The shoe is a part of the #BETRUE
collection, which also includes sandals, t-shirts and tanks.
“The Nike Free Run 5.0 #BETRUE offers
runners increased foot strength and a barefoot-like feel, and Nike
Flywire technology for a dynamic, glove-like fit,” the shoe's
description reads. “The Nike Free 5.0 has an 8-millimeter midsole
offset and lies in the middle of the Nike Free spectrum between a
minimal, barefoot-like feel and a traditional athletic shoe.”
Nike said profits from the sale of the
#BETRUE collection are being donated to the LGBT Sports Coalition, a
group of organizations aimed at ending LGBT bias in sport by 2016.
Currently, the Nike Free 5.0 is only
available for men. It costs $115 at Nike's online store.
On Saturday, NBA free agent Jason
Collins marched in Boston's gay Gay Pride parade wearing a Nike
#BETRUE t-shirt.
The second LGBT Sports Summit taking
place next week in Portland, Oregon will be sponsored by Nike.
