UFC lightweight fighter Nate Diaz has
been fined and suspended for violating the UFC's fighter code of
conduct.
In responding to the news that fighter
Bryan Caraway would receive half of fighter Pat Healy's $130,000
bonus money after Healy tested positive for marijuana, Nate expressed
sympathy for Healy and hurled a gay slur at Caraway.
“I feel bad for pat Healy that they
took a innocent mans money and I think the guy who took the money is
the biggest Fag in the world,” Diaz
messaged. The tweet has since been deleted.
“We are very disappointed by Nate
Diaz's comments,” UFC officials said in a statement, “which are
in no way reflective of our organization.”
Mike Kogan, Diaz's manager, defended
the fighter, saying that the word “fag” in Northern California
means “you're a little punk.”
“It has nothing to do with
homosexuals at all,” Kogan
told ABC affiliate WZZM.
“I'm sure some people got offended,”
he continued. “But how people view it is how people view it. I
can't control that. His intent was not to make a derogatory term
toward homosexuals.”
