Robbie Rogers has posed for the NOH8
Campaign, which raises awareness and
funds for gay rights causes, including ending California's 2008
voter-approved gay marriage ban, Proposition 8.
Rogers is the former U.S. Men's
National Soccer Team member who last played for the UK's Leeds United
team. He came out gay and announced his retirement from professional
soccer in an online post in February.
“'Don't waste your life hating others
for something you cannot change. Preach Love!' - Out soccer player
@RobbieRogers,” the NOH8 Campaign tweeted over the weekend.
The NOH8 Campaign's
Adam Bouska and his partner Jeff Parshley photograph celebrities,
politicians, professional athletes and everyday folks with their
mouths duct taped and the campaign's familiar “NOH8” slogan often
written on one cheek.
In
his photo, Rogers is wearing a white t-shirt. Rogers has
previously said a “Lollie 1967-1999” tattoo visible in the photo
is a reference to an aunt, who died over a decade ago.
Other professional
athletes who have previously posed for the campaign include former
Minnesota Vikings punter Chris
Kluwe, former Carolina Panthers linebacker Nic
Harris, former NFL defensive lineman Esera
Tavai Tuaolo, New York Jets safety Bret
Lockett, and Houston Dynamo's Mike
Chabala.
