Mayor Chris Coleman issued a
proclamation temporarily renaming the bridge the Wabasha Street
Freedom to Marry Bridge.
“I renamed the WabashaBridge 2 the
Freedom to Marry Bridge for this week,” Coleman tweeted along with
a photo of the bridge lined with rainbow flags. “Marriage equality
here we come.”
The segmental bridge spans the
Mississippi River in downtown St. Paul. It replaced an earlier
structure built in 1889 when it opened in 1998.
