Meredith Baxter and Patty Duke will
join the cast of Glee as a longtime lesbian couple.
According to E! News, the women will
first appear on the show's season finale and are expected to return
as recurring characters next season.
In the episode, Blaine Anderson (played
by Darren Criss) meets Duke's character, a saleswoman, while
purchasing a wedding ring for Kurt Anderson (Chris Colfer).
“She speaks to Blaine and his love
for Kurt, and then she and her longtime girlfriend (Baxter) offer to
be their mentors – a couple who can tell them about what it used to
be like for LGBT people, and how great it is for this new
generation,” E!
News reported.
The storyline was inspired by a current
Supreme Court case related to gay marriage.
Baxter
came out gay in 2009.
