Good Morning America weather anchor Sam Champion has credited CNN anchor Anderson Cooper for making it easier for him to come out gay.

Cooper came out early last year after ducking rumors for years.

Champion first discussed his sexual orientation in announcing his engagement to his now husband, photographer Rubem Robierb.

Appearing on cabler Current's Say Anything, Champion told guest host Howard Bragman that Cooper's coming out had made the decision to follow easier.

“Anytime anyone who is in the public eye makes that step, it makes it easier,” Champion said. “It makes it easier for them to say to their co-workers, it makes it easier for them to say to their employers: This is my life. I'm proud of who I am.”

“For Anderson to do it, for anyone to do it, I think it's a great thing,” he added. (The video is embedded on this page. Visit our video library for more videos.)
