Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert has stated
that gay marriage is contributing to the undoing of America.
Gohmert, a Republican, reacted to the
more than 100 Republicans who have signed on to an amicus
brief urging the U.S. Supreme Court to strike down Proposition 8,
California's 2008 voter-approved amendment which defines marriage as
a heterosexual union.
“I don't know where they're going,”
Gohmert told The
Huffington Post Gay Voices Editor Michelangelo Signorile at
the Conservative Political Action Committee (CPAC) taking place in
National Harbor, Maryland.
“The great thing about this country
is, I have no problem with 100 people telling the Supreme Court,
filing an amicus brief, whatever they did, saying this is what we
believe. But when you look historically, you see the nuclear family
home – mother, father, children – break down, you see society
break down, and you see a society, and a civilization in decline.
All under the guise, under the name of advancement but it's normally
on the road to the dust bin of history.”
“How is gay marriage contributing to
that?” Signorile asked.
“You're breaking up the nuclear
family – a man, a woman and children. It's hard to argue with the
fact that biologically that's what nature intended or we would never
have had a second generation on his Earth.”
