Media mogul Arianna Huffington has
credited President Barack Obama for increasing support for gay
marriage.
The 62-year-old Huffington, best known
for her news website The Huffington Post, made her remarks
during an appearance on Larry King Now.
Pointing to the more than 100
Republicans who signed on to a brief in support of a case before the
Supreme Court challenging the constitutionality of Proposition 8,
California's 2008 voter-approved amendment which limits marriage to
heterosexual unions, host Larry King called the shift in support
“revolutionary.”
The pair agreed that Obama has led on
the issue.
“He led and it shows what leadership
can do,” Huffington said. “When he actually finally said what
was the truth about same-sex marriage in terms of what he believed,
because nobody ever thought he believed otherwise. Makes me feel
very optimistic about how you can actually change public opinion and
policy on not just same-sex marriage but on many other issues, if
there is a concerted effort.” (The video is embedded on this page.
