A 3-year-old boy's attempts to distract
his father at a press conference to introduce a gay marriage bill in
Minnesota have turned him into an Internet star.
Representative Karen Clark and Senator
Scott Dibble, the measure's champions in the House and Senate
respectively, unveiled the long-expected bill which seeks to make
Minnesota the 10th state to legalize marriage equality at
a Wednesday press conference at the Minnesota State Capitol.
Also making statements to the press
were gay and lesbian couples raising children in Minnesota.
While holding his son Emmett and with
his partner of 7 years James Zimmerman in the background holding twin
son Gabriel, Paul Melchert, a pediatrician, is repeatedly interrupted
by Emmett, who wants his dad to “stop talking.”
Emmett wins over the audience by
placing his hand over dad's mouth, attempting to steal dad's speech
and even running a toy truck over dad's head. (The video is embedded
on this page. Emmett appears about 15 minutes into the video. Visit
