Actor Jim Nabors believes marriage
should be a right for everyone.
The star of Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.
married his partner Stan Cadwallader, a former firefighter, in
Seattle. According to the Honolulu-based Hawaii News Now, the
men, who live in Hawaii, have been together 38 years.
Nabors, 82, and Cadwallader, 64,
married in a private ceremony held at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel on
January 15, just a few weeks after Washington state legalized such
unions. The men were issued a marriage license on December 22, The
New York Times reported.
Nabors told the AP that he's not an
activist but feels strongly that everyone should have the right to
marry.
“I just wanted it legal,” Nabors
said. “I think every person on this Earth has a choice of who they
want to spend their life with.”
Nabors added in remarks to Hawaii News
Now that he has never been closeted.
“I haven't ever made a public
spectacle of it,” he said. “Well, I've known since I was a
child, so, come on. It's not that kind of a thing. I've never made
a huge secret of it at all.”
