Zach Wahls, the Eagle Scout who formed Scouts for Equality, believes most Boy Scout troops are prepared to “welcome gays with open arms.”

Wahls' group has been lobbying the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) to drop its ban on gay scouts and leaders.

On Monday, the BSA announced that it was considering ending its national ban and allowing individual troops to decide the issue for themselves. A decision could come as early as next week.

In an appearance on cabler Current's Viewpoint, Wahls told host John Fugelsang that if the policy were lifted most groups would open their membership to gays.

“It seems likely that some charter organizations – perhaps the Mormon Church, or the Catholic Church – might continue to prohibit gays from participating,” Wahls said. “But it looks to us that the majority of charter organizations … are going to be welcoming gays with open arms. Because as we've seen at the local level a ban on gay members can be very devastating.” (The video is embedded on this page. Visit our video library for more videos.)
