The Department of Defense continues to
ban accesses to gay blogs from military computers while some of the
most vitriolic anti-gay groups are permitted.
According to AMERICAblog.com,
the Pentagon is filtering gay blogs such as Towleroad.com,
GoodAsYou.org and Bilerico.com. However, the websites of prominent
anti-gay foes such as the National Organization for Marriage (NOM)
and the American Family Association (AFA) are not banned.
“It's bad enough the United States
Department of Defense censors Towleroad and AMERICAblog – banning
the gay civil rights web sites from being accessed on DOD computers –
and it's even worse that the Pentagon has no problem permitting their
computers to access Ann Coulter's and Rush Limbaugh's hate-filled web
sites,” John Aravosis wrote.”
Aravosis said he confirmed the
continued use of the filter – put in place before repeal of “Don't
Ask, Don't Tell” – by asking military members to access several
of the sites.
“The filter actually says that
Towleroad and Josh Seefried [founder of OutServe] were banned for
being 'LGBT,'” Aravosis said.
Other sites were banned for being
“political” and “activist.”
