Linda Harvey's Mission America says gay
blogs are nothing more than propaganda that an intelligent person
would ignore.
Harvey's Columbus, Ohio-based
conservative organization on Thursday defended Harvey from a campaign
to “smear” her.
Over the years, On Top Magazine
has been among the many “gay blogs” to report on Harvey's
conservative radio show and her provocative take on LGBT issues.
Recently, we ran the headline Linda
Harvey: Gays not protected by constitution because they're not
people.
“Linda Harvey does not believe that
homosexuals 'don't exist' or are 'not human beings,'” the site
wrote. “Sadly, intentional deception and a smear campaign are in
play. (Sigh!) … Somewhere along the line, a twisted version of
what we really say, that homosexual desires and behavior are not
inborn, is being attributed to our ministry. Before you make that
vulgar call, or send that vicious email, please do your homework and
double check your source. That has never been the plain meaning of
anything we've written or said on the radio.”
Harvey most likely is arguing that
homosexuality is a choice. However her outdated metaphors are
clearly intended to dehumanize gay people.
“Why should the equal protection
argument be made in favor of homosexual behavior, which is
changeable?” Harvey rhetorically asked recently on her radio show.
“People are not naturally homosexual, so the definition of 'person'
in the Fourteenth Amendment is being twisted to make this
assumption.”
“'Person' should be understood based
on historic, beneficial, or at least neutral and fact-based traits.
It should not be twisted to incorporate behavior that most religions
and most cultures have said a firm 'no' to.”
Last
year she said: “There's one big fact that's not backed up.
There is no proof that there's ever anything like a gay, lesbian or
bisexual or transgendered child, or teen or human. … The PR
campaign to hold up gay as a good thing: the lifestyle, not the
person, because there are no such humans.”
In
its post, titled To Our Critics …, the group goes on to
attack “gay blogs” as shallow and vicious.
“But none of us has time to debate
with people who just don't care to read first and get the facts.
Propaganda is an enemy to us all, and the truly intelligent person
will read something other than shallow, vicious 'gay' blogs.”
