Mika, Anderson Cooper, Frank Ocean and
Kristy McNichol were among the celebrities who came out gay in 2012.
British singer-songwriter Mika spoke
about his relationship for the first time in the September issue of
Instinct: “If you ask me am I gay, I say yeah. Are these
songs about my relationship with a man? I say yeah. And it's only
through my music that I've found the strength to come to terms with
my sexuality beyond the context of just my lyrics. This is my real
life,” Mika
said.
After years dodging rumors, CNN anchor
and daytime talk show host Anderson
Cooper announced he's gay in an open letter to The Daily
Beast.
“The fact is, I'm gay, always have
been, always will be, and I couldn't be any more happy, comfortable
with myself, and proud,” Cooper wrote.
Frank
Ocean, who snagged six Grammy nominations this year, is credited
as the first mainstream hip-hop artist to come out bisexual.
Actress Kristy
McNichol told People.com that she has been in a 20-year
relationship with her partner Martie Allen.
Also coming out this year were actors
Jim
Parsons, Joanna
Johnson and
Matt Bomer. Sam
Champion, the GMA weather anchor, also came out, as did Olympian
Megan
Rapinoe.
