Actress Sally Field tells Katie Couric that she's proud of her gay son, Sam Greisman.

In October, Field was presented with the Human Rights Campaign's (HRC) Ally for Equality Award at the group's 16th annual National Dinner at the Walter E. Washington convention center in Washington D.C.

The 65-year-old Field was introduced by Greisman, 25, who told the crowd that his mother was “overjoyed” when he came out gay to her.

In an appearance on Katie to be broadcast on Monday, Field tells host Katie Couric that Greisman, the youngest of her three sons, made her proud that night.

Greisman “wanted me to do it, and [HRC] asked him to introduced me,” she says.

“One of the most important things in my life is that my son introduced me and he hit it out of the park. He wrote the speech, and he delivered the speech, and he was absolutely fabulous. Funny and in his own voice, and of his era, which I think is important – it's a whole different era, his generation,” she adds.
