Meghan McCain has joined the Leadership
Committee of the Young Conservatives for the Freedom to Marry.
“I'm thrilled to join the Young
Conservatives for the Freedom to Marry, who believe, as I do, that we
don't have to choose between conservatism and marriage for all
committed couples,” said McCain in a statement released Thursday.
“I look forward to spreading the message that the tenets of family,
personal freedom and responsibility point the way toward a GOP that
fully embraces the freedom to marry.”
McCain, the daughter of Arizona Senator
John McCain, is an MSNBC contributor and a columnist for the Daily
Beast. She is an outspoken advocate of increasing the diversity
of the Republican Party.
Recent polling shows that nearly a majority
(49%) of Republican under the age of 29 support marriage equality.
