A 14-year-old New Zealand teen fears
ducks could rule the world if gay marriage is legalized.
The teen, identified by Gawker.com as
Jasmin, explains her reasoning in a letter to the editor of New
Zealand's Northern Outlook.
“If homosexuality spreads, it can
cause human evolution to come to a standstill. It could threaten the
human position on the evolutionary ladder, and say, ducks, could take
over the world. Ducks always nest in pairs and if we allow same-sex
marriage, then the ducks will have evolved further than we have. We
will be in danger of all being equal, with ducks more equal than us,”
she wrote.
Jasmin added that she is concerned
about her children competing with ducks.
“If you believe in evolution, you
can't be in favor of homosexuality, or the ducks will get you in the
end,” added
Jasmin, a self-identified homeschooled teen.
New Zealand lawmakers are expected to
debate a
bill which would legalize gay nuptials on the island nation. The
relationships of gay couples are currently recognized by the
government with civil unions.
