Minnesota Senator Al Franken and his wife Franni star in a new ad in which the couple calls on Minnesotans to reject a proposed gay marriage ban.

The video, released Monday by Minnesotans United for All Families, the coalition of groups working to defeat the amendment on November 6, features the Frankens, married 35 years, in their home.

“Love is love, and commitment is commitment, and marriage is marriage,” says Mrs. Franken in the 2-minute video. “Nobody owns it; it shouldn't be taken away from you. This amendment is just not Minnesotan.”

“It isn't a Minnesota way, but I don't think it's an American way, either,” Mr. Franken says. “Commitment to each other, I think, is a good thing, a stabilizing force in society. And I think that's what we want. We want it for each other. We should want it for everybody.”

“I believe that it's time that all people who love each other be able to be married,” he adds. (The video is embedded on this page. Visit our video library for more videos.)
