Marlo Thomas, Leisha Hailey and
Constance Zimmer are among the actors waiting in the wings to guest
star on The New Normal, the
new NBC comedy from Glee
creator Ryan Murphy.
In the show, David (played by Justin
Bartha, The Hangover) and Bryan (Andrew Rannells, Broadway's
Book of Mormon) begin their quest to start a family as Goldie
(Georgia King) and her daughter escape the clutches of her
overbearing and homophobic grandmother (Ellen Barkin) from small town Ohio
to Los Angeles.
The
down-on-her-luck single mom arrives just in time to help the couple
fulfill their dream.
The Hollywood
Reporter quoted Murphy as stating that Marlo Thomas will show up
possibly around episode 10 (to air sometime in November).
“I want her to
play the opposite of what she's always played in her career and she
loves that idea,” he said. “I want her to be Ellen Barkin's
mentor and I want her to sort of run this real estate agency.”
The
show will also debut a lesbian couple next week, played by Leisa
Hailey (The L Word)
and Constance Zimmer (Entourage).
“We thought it was important that all
sides of the gay community have stakes in the show,” Murphy
said.
David and Bryan will ask the couple to
be the godparents to their unborn child.
