Televangelist Pat Robertson has suggested Democrats are “out of their minds” for supporting gay marriage in their party platform.

In a 700 Club segment, Robertson noted a statement from the Coalition of African-American Pastors (CAAP) praising Republicans for opposing such unions in its platform.

“We thank the GOP for ensuring that at least one party is willing to stand up for the common sense, Biblical understanding of marriage,” said Williams Owens, the group's founder.

Owen's son, William Owens Jr., added in a clip that legalizing gay nuptials will “hurt the heart of God.”

“Given the state of marriage around the country overwhelmingly people have voted in favor of traditional marriage,” said Robertson. “To think that the Democratic Party would put in their platform support of gay marriage. You just say, 'What are they thinking about?' The Obama administration has insulted the Catholic Church. … And now to see this at the platform, you say: 'Are you out of your mind?' Well, maybe not, we'll see.” (The video is embedded on this page. Visit our video library for more videos.)
