New York City Councilman Jimmy Van
Bramer is set to marry his longtime partner Dan Hendrick on Saturday.
Van Bramer, 42, and Hendrick, 41, who
have been together for more than 12 years, told the New York Daily
News that they will wed in a rooftop ceremony in Van Bramer's
Long Island City district.
Van Bramer is the second member of the
City Council to marry a same-sex partner. Speaker
Christine Quinn married her wife Kim Catullo in May.
“I had always thought I would get
married, but when I came out … I thought that I gave up that
chance. I didn't think in my lifetime it would ever change,” said
Van Bramer.
Hendrick proposed marriage to Van
Bramer last November.
“I ultimately did it in a
restaurant,” Hendrick told the Sunnyside Post last year.
“It was a beautiful setting on the water. I picked up engagement
rings for the two of us, had some nice things to say and sprung the
question.”
