The Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund, a
gay advocacy group that works to elect openly GLBT people, has
released an audio clip of Oklahoma State Representative Sally Kern in
which the lawmaker asserts gays are dangerous to America. The group
edited a video montage to include the audio clip and posted it to the
video sharing website YouTube on Friday March 7th.
Kern, the wife of a Baptist pastor, was
unaware of the recording. Speaking to The Advocate, Victory
Fund president and CEO Chuck Wolfe admitted a friend of the GLBT
community had secretly recorded the audio clip during a speech to a
Republican audience of about 50 in Oklahoma.
“I honestly think it's
[homosexuality] the biggest threat our nation has, even more so than
terrorism or Islam,” Kern tells her audience.
“According to the word of God, that
is not the right lifestyle. It has deadly consequences for those
people involved in it. They have more suicides, and they are more
discouraged, there's more illness, their life spans are shorter...It
is not a lifestyle that is good for this nation.”
Kern argues that the gay agenda
includes indoctrinating young children, “They want to get our young
children into the government schools so that they can indoctrinate
them...They're going after our young children, as young as two years
of age, to try to teach them the homosexual lifestyle is an
acceptable lifestyle ”
Kern, a Republican, is a member of the
Oklahoma State legislature and sits on the Education and Human
Services committees representing Oklahoma City.
“Gays are infiltrating city
councils,” Kern says in her speech, “Eureka Springs in now
controlled by gays. There are some others, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania;
Tacoma, Maryland... And they are winning elections.”
Kern begins her speech by saying she is
not gay bashing, but adds, “The very fact that I'm talking to you
like this, here today, puts me in jeopardy.”
