Modern Family co-star Sofia
Vergara says she supports President Barack Obama's endorsement of gay
marriage.
The 39-year-old Vergara plays Gloria
Pritchett on the ABC Wednesday night comedy Modern Family,
which prominently features a gay couple, Mitchell and Cameron, played
by Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet, respectively, who are
raising an adoptive daughter. In the show's final season 3 episode,
Mitchell and Cameron agree to table their search to adopt a boy.
In a
Terra.com interview with film critic Maria Salas, Vergara, a
Colombian native, was asked her thoughts on Obama's recently
completed “evolution” on gay marriage.
“I believe that it's very important
to accept the entire world as they are,” she said. “The
important thing is that we should all be happy. And that which makes
a person happy, well, we should all support and help him or her
achieve that.”
Before landing stateside, Vergara was
widely known for co-hosting two television shows for the Spanish
language television network Univision in the late 1990s. She can
currently be seen in the film The Three Stooges.
