DC Comics co-publisher Dan Didio has
said an established character will come out gay.
Didio made his comments at the Kapow
comic convention in London. Comics website BleedingCool.com
quoted Didio as telling attendees that the publisher was preparing to
reintroduce an existing DC character who would now be “one of our
most prominent gay characters.”
Last year, Didio told gay glossy The
Advocate that DC Comics would introduce new gay characters as
opposed to having characters come out gay.
“One of the things we're very focused
on doing for these types of stories is rather than [change an
existing] character, we want to make sure that this is the basis of
who that character is right from the start,” he
said. “So if we're going to introduce a gay character in Teen
Titans, we want to make it a new character and make sure that is
an intrical part of who he is, or who she is, right from the start so
we can really learn and grow with her or him.”
Bob Wayne, senior VP of sales,
explained that just like President Barack Obama, DC Comics had
“evolved” on its view of how to handle gay characters.
