In her commencement speech to the
graduating class of Smith College, Jane Lynch included plenty of
references to her wife, a Smith graduate.
Lynch, who plays coach Sue Sylvester on
the Fox musical-comedy Glee, married her wife Dr. Lara Embry
in a private ceremony in the Smith hometown of Northampton,
Massachusetts in 2010.
In her Sunday address, the Emmy winner
called the Smith graduating class of 2012 an “elite and powerful
group of game-changing women.”
“I feel I know quite a bit about
Smith women because I married one,” said Lynch. “I know from
living with Lara, class of 91, and loving Lara, class of 91, that the
experience of attending this fabulous college is simply
transformative.”
“You are fiercely independent, you
are wickedly smart, trailblazing, uber-confident and shockingly
entitled,” the funny woman said. “Like I told you, I live with
one of you!”
Lynch also discussed first meeting
Embry's daughter: “The day after I met my wife, I met my daughter.
I don't really like kids; I'm a dog person. But you couldn't have
designed a better kid for me. She's witty, wise beyond her years,
she has a huge heart, and such patience with the frailties of human
nature.” (The video is embedded in the right panel of this page.
