The Perfect Family, starring
Kathleen Turner and Emily Deschanel, is now available on VOD and
playing in New York and Los Angeles.
Matronly Eileen Cleary (played by
Kathleen Turner) spends her days volunteering at her local parish,
running errands for the parish priest (Richard Chamberlain), and
serving on church committees.
When Eileen hears she has been
nominated for the Catholic Woman of the Year, her main obstacles are
her high school nemesis Agnes Dunn (Sharon Lawrence) and her family,
which includes a disaffected husband (Michael McGrady), a son (Jason
Ritter) whose marriage is on the rocks, and a daughter (Deschanel)
who is pregnant and preparing to marry another woman.
Comedy ensues when Eileen attempts to
cover up her family's flaws so they can pass muster with the bishop
(Hansford Rowe).
In one scene, Eileen confronts her
daughter about being a lesbian.
“You're living in sin,” Eileen
tells her daughter.
“Says who?” she responds.
“The pope.”
“What do you think?” she asks.
“I don't have to think. I'm a
Catholic,” Eileen responds.
