Online content providers YouTube Movies
and Hulu are beefing up their movie selections with gay-inclusive
films.
Hulu's
gay and lesbian category includes 62 movies, while YouTube
Movies has made 42 movies available for immediate streaming.
Hulu added the content after
establishing a release agreement with LGBT film distributor Wolfe
Video.
YouTube Movies is charging between
$1.99 and $3.99 per rental, while most of Hulu's offerings stream for
free with embedded commercials. Several features are only available
on the provider's paid offering, Hulu Plus.
Hulu is also offering several
television series from gay cablers Logo (The Big Gay Sketch Show,
Rick and Steve: The Happiest Gay Couple In All The World and Exes
& Ohs) and here! (Just Josh). Content
from other networks is also available, including both seasons of the
BBC's groundbreaking drama Queer as Folk
and 17 clips from Bravo's Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.
Herndon Graddick, president of the Gay
& Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), applauded the
move.
“Making such groundbreaking and
popular LGBT films available and accessible to a wider audience can
have a tremendous impact on LGBT people longing to see relatable
stories onscreen,” Graddick said in a statement. “We applaud
Hulu and Wolfe for their leadership in bringing stories that can
touch, inspire and entertain so many.”
