Secretary of State Hillary Clinton
apparently can take a good joke.
A 2011 black and white photo of Clinton
wearing dark sunglasses and looking in charge while texting onboard a
military plane became the basis for the spoof blog Texts
From Hillary.
Stacy Lambe and Adam Smith paired up
the picture with photographs of other notables.
In one pairing, Meryl Streep texts,
“Brunch?” and Clinton responds, “Obviously.”
In another, Ryan Gosling messages, “Hey
girl ...,” and Clinton responds, “... It's Madam Secretary.”
The blog, which went online last week
after the pairings became a running joke for the two men over drinks
at a Washington, D.C. gay bar, caught the attention of Clinton
staffers, who invited the men for a visit at the State Department to
meet with Clinton.
“I just kept coming up with perfect
results of people like Anna Wintour and Meryl Streep on their phones,
and there's just this natural alignment,” Lambe told gay weekly
Metro
Weekly. “I think a lot of people associate those three
women in similar circles.”
“Having seen a couple of videos of
Meryl Streep introducing Hillary Clinton at the women's summit,
there's just this camaraderie there. There's just so much respect
between those two women, you can't help but have this awesome little
exchange that you think might happen.”
“I may be only speaking for me, but
I'm sure a lot gay men, gay women too, have a lot of respect for
them,” he added.
Lambe said he and Smith at first
doubted the authenticity of the State Department's invitation.
“I think both of us were in disbelief
that it was even real. We Googled the name, asked if it was real. I
was like, 'Is this a really bad version of Punk'd?”
“For her to … walk up to us and
know us by name and shake our hands and greet us and everything, it
was absolutely divine,” Lambe said. “She said her favorite post
was the Ryan Gosling one ...”
