Televangelist Pat Robertson on Monday suggested that gay sex is “related to demonic possession,” media watchdog RightWingWatch.org reported.

Robertson, the host of The 700 Club, made his comments after the show broadcast a segment about a man who “changed” his sexual orientation.

The segment featured Shawn, a man who married a woman and started a family in the hopes of changing his sexual orientation. Neglect, Shawn claimed, led him back to having sex with other men.

“I would admit to cruising the Internet. But I would not admit to her that cruising the gay website eventually led to me going out to the local cruise area. Which eventually led me to getting out of the car, talking to someone. Which eventually led to me meeting up at hotels.”

Shawn and his wife decided to stay together and mend their marriage after his “repentance and deliverance from the homosexual lifestyle.”

“God, the spirit of life, has set me free from the spirit of death and sin and I don't have to be compelled or driven to act out sinful nature,” he said.

Robertson commented: “That type of conduct is wrong and it is time that in society we say certain things are wrong. He's obsessed, he has a compulsion. … I think it is somehow related to demonic possession.” (The video is embedded in the right panel of this page. Visit our video library for more videos.)
