Scottish actor Alan Cumming on Saturday
married his partner Grant Shaffer at the Soho Grand Hotel in New York
City.
“I just got married!!!!” Cumming
tweeted to his nearly 36,000 followers at around 8:30PM Eastern.
“On the 5th anniversary of
our wedding in London grant and I tied the knot again in NYC!!!” he
added moments later along with the hashtag “eatmericksantorum.”
Cumming and graphic artist Shaffer
entered a civil partnership in 2007 after a 2 year engagement.
“Mazel tov boyz,” recently
married actor Cheyenne Jackson tweeted.
After publicly announcing he's bisexual
in 1998, Cumming became involved in several gay rights organizations,
including the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD)
and the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), and several HIV/AIDS charities
such as Broadway Cares/Equity Fight AIDS and the American Foundation
for AIDS Research (amfAR), which was founded by the late Dame
Elizabeth Taylor.
A 1985 marriage to actress Hilary Lyon
lasted eight years.
The 46-year-old Cumming, who became an
American citizen in 2008, currently stars as Eli Gold on the CBS
legal drama The Good Wife.
