Money guru Suze Orman say she wants to
be known as the Money Lady, not the Money Lesbian.
During a conference call to discuss her
upcoming six-part series America's Money Class, which is set
to debut Monday, January 9 on cabler OWN, Orman, who came out gay in
2007, was asked by lesbian entertainment website AfterEllen.com
why she doesn't talk much about her personal life.
“Well, you know, the one reason that
up until now that, you know, you haven't seen a lot about my personal
life is because I didn't want anything to get in the trouble or in
the way of money,” Orman answered.
“And I didn't want people's minds to
be troubled by the fact that – you know, that I'm gay and I've been
with KT now for 11 years. So I always wanted to be known as the
Money Lady, not, you know, the Money Lesbian,” she said, referring
to Kathy Travis, whom she married in South Africa in 2010.
Orman added that Travis is included in
her web site because “I love her so much.”
“I don't make a habit of talking
about it only because the truth of the matter is people whenever they
get on the phone with me they don't ask me about it. They ask me
about money.”
