Two-time Olympian Johnny Weir is
grateful for well wishes he's received on his marriage to Victor
Voronov.
“Thank you to everyone for your well
wishes to me and @vitya_zvesda! It means a lot to have your
blessings! Mama loves you!” he messaged to his nearly 103,000
followers.
Weir, 27, and Voronov, 28, ended 2011
by tying the knot in a civil ceremony at the New York City Courthouse
on Friday, December 30, 2011.
The pair are planning a wedding this
summer.
The couple married in the company of
their parents, Tony and Lili Voronov and Patti and John Weir, and
have taken the surname Weir-Voronov. Johnny Weir will continue to be
known as Johnny Weir in his professional life.
“I am so happy to have found my
match,” Johnny Weir said in a statement. “Finding someone to
share your life with is one of the most important things a human can
do and was preached to me by my mother. Victor is the epitome of a
gentleman, as handsome as he is clever and loving. Our road to
marriage has been a fast one, but one I never waivered on. I am
honored to have been married in the great state of New York, and I
hope more states pass laws allowing all Americans to be united
through love and marriage.”
In an interview with The
GA Voice, Weir, who only came out gay roughly a year ago in
his memoir Welcome to my World, mentioned that his boyfriend
had only recently come out gay.
