The ten groups and individuals named to
Scott Lively's list of top “pro-family champions” oppose gay
rights.
Lively, the founder of Abiding Truth
Ministries and the president of Defend the Family International,
released
his list Saturday on his group's website.
“I rate these groups and individuals
based upon my own subjective 'Courage Index,'” Lively wrote. “In
my estimation, the following groups/individuals have the most of it
and have risked the most in defense of Biblical truth on the issue of
homosexuality.”
At number one is Lively's own group,
followed by: Americans For Truth About Homosexuality's Peter
LaBarbera, Mass Resistance's Brian Camenker, WorldNetDaily.com's
Joseph Farah, Mission America's Linda Harvey, American Family
Association's (AFA) Bryan Fischer, Liberty Counsel's Mathew Staver
and Matt Barber, National Association for Research and Therapy of
Homosexuality's (NARTH) Dr. Joseph Nicolosi, Parents and Friends of
Gays and Ex-Gays' (PFOX) Regina Griggs and Exodus Faith Ministries'
Bishop E.W. Jackson.
Farah
thanked Lively for the honor: “I am very grateful to be honored
by Abiding Truth Ministries and to be included among such
distinguished and courageous luminaries.”
The list is surprising given that
Lively told The
Boston Globe earlier this year that he had moved on from
fighting the culture wars.
Lively has previously argued that gay
rights are dangerous and has admitted that he traveled to Uganda
to give testimony in favor of an anti-gay measure which includes a
death penalty provision for people who repeatedly engage in gay sex
and those who are HIV-positive.
