Chandler Massey, who plays Will Horton on the long-running NBC daytime soap Days of our Lives, has said he's thrilled to play gay.

The 21-year-old Massey spoke with The Huffington Post about his character's upcoming coming out storyline.

“It's going to unfold slowly, because we want to be as realistic as possible, because coming to terms with who you are and your sexuality is not something that happens overnight. It takes time,” Massey said.

Massey said producers are not pursuing the storyline simply because it's “popular.”

“It's not one of those things where, 'Oh, some other soaps are doing gay storylines, it's popular, it's on Glee, so we're just going to do it.' It's a meaningful story that's very relevant today. You can expect some good stuff.”

He added that coming out will be difficult for his character: “It's going to be very difficult. … Mostly, it's because of the people he cares about and loves. He's basically afraid of how they will react.”

And on playing a gay role: “Personally, I was thrilled when they told me back in February. … I'm honored to be part of this storyline, which is important and relevant today.” (The video interview is embedded in the right panel of this page. Visit our video library for more videos.)
