Rick Perry has compared himself to Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow, who is a devout Christian.

Perry made the comparison while defending his debating skills during Thursday night's Fox News GOP presidential debate.

“I'm kind of getting to where I like these debates. As a matter of fact, I hope Obama and I debate a lot and I'll get there early and we will get it on and we will talk about our differences, which are great,” Perry said.

“There are a lot of people out there … I understand it … There are a lot of folks who said Tim Tebow wasn't going to be a very good NFL quarterback. There are people who stood up and said, 'Well he doesn't have the right throwing mechanisms.' Or he doesn't have, you know, he's not playing the game right. And he won two national championships, and that looked pretty good. We were the national champions on job creation back in Texas.”

“Let me tell you, I hope I am the Tim Tebow of the Iowa caucuses,” he added. (The video is embedded in the right panel of this page. Visit our video library for more videos.)
