Indiana Pacers guard Brandon Rush is
under fire for using anti-gay slurs on Twitter, the AP
reported.
The 26-year-old Rush played for the
University of Kansas in college for three seasons and was drafted by
the NBA's Portland Trail Blazers in 2008.
During a disagreement with a fan on
Twitter, Rush tweeted that he was playing a professional sport with
the best and that a male fan was “probably over there playing with
lil boys.” He also sent messages that included, “Go ride a dick
or something? Faggots” and “Go suck a pigs dick!” The tweets
have since been deleted.
Rush's agent, Mark Bartelstein, said
the account, @IamThaKing25, had been hacked and that Rush had not
messaged those comments.
Pacers officials are not allowed to
speak with Rush due to the NBA lockout, but Pacers President Larry
Bird released a general statement.
“I was young once,” he said. “I
did a lot of things I regret. All we can do is inform the guys how
we feel about it and be careful out there.”
“We have concerns, but the culture
here is a lot different than it's been in the past. We expect our
players to do the right things, and I think they will.”
