The L Word creator Ilene Chaiken
has said she regrets killing off Erin Daniels on the show's third
season.
Daniels' Dana Fairbanks, a tennis
professional, died of heart failure after being diagnosed with breast
cancer earlier in the season.
The revelation comes as the complete
DVD set of Showtime's groundbreaking lesbian drama arrives on
retail shelves, just in time for the holidays.
In
a short clip from the upcoming reunion special posted on
MovieWeb.com, Chaiken, surrounded by many of the show's stars,
including Jennifer Beals, Katherine Moennig, Laurel Holloman, Leisha
Hailey and Daniels, said being the cause of the much-loved Fairbanks'
demise has been difficult to live with.
“The one thing that I most regret on
the show is Dana's death,” Chaiken said. “The reaction was so
passionate and the grief was so deeply felt – and to have be
responsible for causing that kind of grief just is hard to live with.
… If I could go back and do it over again that might be the one
thing I'd do differently.”
