Actor John Leguizamo is the latest
celebrity to record a video for the Human Rights Campaign's (HRC)
Americans for Marriage Equality campaign.
“Loving, committed couples should be
able to marry the person they love and protect their families. And
nothing is more important than family. And nothing says family like
marriage,” the 47-year-old Leguizamo says in his 30-second ad. “So
please join me and the majority of Americans who support marriage
equality.” (The video is embedded in the right panel of this
page.)
Leguizamo, who played drag queen
Chi-Chi Rodriguez in the 1995 film To Wong Foo Thanks For
Everything, Julie Newmar, was born in Colombia and his family
emigrated to the United States when he was four.
Similar HRC campaigns have focused on
winning marriage equality in a specific state, previously New York
and currently Maryland.
Americans for Marriage Equality places
the campaign on a national stage and includes videos from the
Marylanders for Marriage Equality campaign.
Recent contributors include Precious
star Mo'Nique,
Baltimore Ravens linebacker Brendon
Ayanbedejo and Julian
Bond, chairman emeritus of the National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People.
