Social conservative Matt Barber has
labeled the people responsible for vandalizing a Chicago-area
Christian school “gay terrorists.”
The Christian Liberty Academy in
Arlington Heights was damaged during an early morning attack on
Saturday. Police said vandals broke a window and a glass door panel.
The attack came hours before anti-gay
activist Scott Lively was to be honored by the group Americans for
Truth About Homosexuality with its American Truth Teller award at
their annual banquet.
A group going by the pseudonym of
“PISSED” claimed responsibility in a statement.
“These chunks of concrete were thrown
through these windows and doors for two reasons: to show that there
is a consequence for hatred and homophobia in our community and to
directly cause this event to shut down,” the statement read in
part.
Lively, the founder of Abiding Truth
Ministries and the president of Defend the Family International, has
argued that gay
rights are dangerous and has admitted that he traveled to Uganda
to give testimony in favor of an anti-gay measure which includes a
death penalty provision for people who repeatedly engage in gay sex
and those who are HIV-positive.
Barber, the vice president of Liberty
Counsel Action, told OneNewsNow.com:
“I have a message to the gay terrorists that perpetrated this
crime: Your terrorist tactics have failed, and you will not succeed
in silencing God's truth.”
Americans For Truth About
Homosexuality's Peter LaBarbera called homosexuality “an
abomination, it's destructive, it's wicked” in condemning the
attacks.
“My question for Christians who don't
want to get involved is: You're telling me that in a civil, free
society where you have homosexual activists making six-figures –
some making over $300,000 running groups which are wholly devoted to
promoting sin – you're telling me in a free society we're not
allowed to oppose them or should oppose them in the public square?
If we don't, politics abhors a void and evil will rush in and that's
what we're seeing,” he
said.
