The View co-host Elisabeth
Hasselbeck on Thursday defended the Android app Is My Son Gay?
Hasselbeck, considered the most
conservative co-host of the ABC daytime talk show, said the app could
spark healthy dialogue between parents and their children.
The French language app determines a
boy's sexuality after asking the user 20 questions pertaining to
masculinity.
Barbara Walters objected to the
questions, calling them “stereotypical.”
“Here are some of the stereotypes,”
Walters said. “Does he like football? So, I mean, there are gays
who like football. Lots of gays. Does he read sports magazines? In
other words, if he doesn't, he's gay.”
While all of the women on the panel
found the questions objectionable, Hasselbeck said the app served a
useful purpose.
“How about this? How about this as a
conversation?” Hasselbeck said, reaching for a coaster to use as a
prop for a smartphone. “'Isn't this a dumb app? Look at this
thing, I mean how stereotypical is this app? Check this out.'”
“The point is, you're talking to your
kid. Your kid might actually talk to you,” she added.
“This is not an app for children,”
