Leonardo DiCaprio's J. Edgar Hoover and
Armie Hammer's Clyde Tolson are seen holding hands in a new trailer
for the Clint Eastwood-directed biopic J. Edgar.
In the clip, FBI
Director Hoover is seen reaching out for Tolson's hand as they travel
at night in the back seat of a car. The moment is caught by Anna
Marie Hoover (played by Judi Dench), Edgar Hoover's mother, who is
traveling in the front seat of the car. (The video is embedded in
the right panel of this page.)
The scene belies
comments Eastwood recently made in the October issue of men's fashion
glossy GQ.
“They were inseparable pals,”
Eastwood said. “Now, whether he was gay or not is gonna be for the
audience to interpret. It could have been just a great love story
between two guys. Or it could have been a great love story that was
also a sexual story.”
J. Edgar is
“not a movie about two gay guys,” he added.
The film will open
the 25th edition of the AFI Festival in Hollywood,
California on November 3 and will open nationwide six days later.
